About AquaMIS
AquaMIS is an app designed by Business Summit Africa for managing aquaculture data in Uganda. It uses a set questionnaire to gather information from fish farmers across the country. Developed with support from MAAIF and funding from the European Union, AquaMIS aims to improve how data is collected and managed in the aquaculture sector. The app allows enumerators to conduct surveys directly with farmers, categorized into different types like fish traders and hatchery operators. This information helps in better understanding and supporting Uganda’s aquaculture industry, divided into regions and districts for comprehensive data collection and management.

The Need
AquaMIS addresses a critical need in Uganda’s aquaculture sector by streamlining data collection and management. Prior to its development, there was a significant gap in systematic information gathering from fish farmers across the country. Existing methods were often inefficient and lacked standardized data collection processes, making it challenging to assess and support the sector’s growth effectively. Our AquaMIS client aimed to fill this gap by providing a user-friendly platform that allows enumerators to conduct structured surveys directly with fish farmers. This approach ensures comprehensive data on various aspects of aquaculture, enabling informed decision-making and targeted interventions to enhance productivity and sustainability in the industry.
