About the project

Shortze is a creator-focused social platform designed around short-form content and real-time interaction. Users can create and share short videos, publish stories and posts, go live, discover other creators, and engage with communities from a single platform.

Beyond content creation, Shortze supports creator discovery and collaboration through nearby feeds, discovery pages, follower streams, search exposure, in-app outreach, scannable portfolios, and profile insights. It also creates opportunities for brands to discover and collaborate with creators through its creator-focused ecosystem.

Challenge

Short-form creators need more than a place to simply upload content. They need tools that make content creation faster, help their work get discovered, encourage meaningful audience interaction, and make creator-to-creator and brand collaborations easier.

Shortze was conceptualized around bringing these experiences together rather than separating creation, discovery, engagement, live interaction, and collaboration across disconnected workflows. The challenge was to create a social experience that remained simple and fast while supporting multiple ways for creators to participate and grow.

Approach

The Shortze experience was structured around the core activities of a modern creator: create, discover, engage, collaborate, and go live.

Content creation was supported with tools for videos, stories, and posts, including effects, music, AI hashtags, and background uploads. Discovery experiences were designed around feeds, search, and creator visibility, while interactive features such as likes, shares, pins, GIF replies, and live experiences helped turn passive viewing into active participation.

The platform also extended the experience toward creator-brand collaboration through in-app outreach, creator portfolios, profile insights, and brand-matching opportunities.

Discovery phase

The discovery phase focused on understanding how short-form creators produce content, discover trends, interact with audiences, and build their presence across social platforms. Key journeys were mapped around content creation, publishing, discovery, live interaction, community engagement, and creator-brand collaboration.

Early insights pointed toward the need for a fast, creator-first experience where users could move easily from creating content to discovering audiences and building meaningful connections without navigating fragmented workflows.

Market Research

Short-form video has become a major format for digital content consumption, particularly among younger, mobile-first audiences. 78% of surveyed users preferred short-form video for discovering new creators, while 64% of creators reported difficulty maintaining visibility and consistent audience engagement.

Research also identified increasing opportunities around creator-brand collaborations, personalized content discovery, and interactive live experiences.

The Gap

Creators often rely on multiple tools and platforms to create content, engage audiences, analyze performance, and connect with brands.

Shortze addresses this gap through a unified creator ecosystem where users can create reels, stories, and posts; go live; discover relevant content through AI-powered feeds; interact with communities; and explore brand collaboration opportunities from one platform.

Audience Struggles

Limited Organic Discovery: 67% of emerging creators struggled to consistently reach audiences beyond their existing followers.

Time-Consuming Content Creation: 61% found switching between different creation and publishing tools disruptive.

Low Audience Interaction: 58% wanted more ways to turn passive views into meaningful engagement.

Difficulty Finding Brand Opportunities: 54% of growing creators found it challenging to connect with brands relevant to their audience.

Content Safety Concerns: 49% considered privacy and control over their social presence important when choosing creator platforms.

User Insights

Tasks Emotions Challenges Opportunities
Content Creation 😵 Overwhelmed Creating engaging short-form content quickly can require multiple tools and repetitive steps. Integrated creation tools simplify reels, stories, and post creation.
Content Discovery 😕 Invisible Emerging creators can struggle to get their content discovered by relevant audiences. AI-powered For You, Nearby, and Discover feeds create multiple discovery paths.
Audience Engagement 😐 Disconnected Views do not always translate into meaningful creator-audience interaction. Likes, shares, pins, replies, and live interactions encourage active participation.
Going Live 😬 Hesitant Creators need interactive formats that help them communicate directly with their communities. Live and collaborative streaming create real-time engagement opportunities.
Brand Collaboration 🤔 Uncertain Creators may find it difficult to showcase themselves and connect with suitable brands. Portfolio profiles, QR sharing, analytics, and audience insights support creator-brand matchmaking.
Privacy & Safety 😟 Concerned Public content creation requires greater control over interactions and visibility. Moderation, reporting, blocking, private accounts, and visibility controls support safer participation.

Opportunity

The opportunity was to create a social platform that goes beyond short-video publishing by connecting content creation, personalized discovery, audience engagement, live interaction, and creator-brand collaboration within one experience.

Shortze was positioned as a creator-first ecosystem where users could express themselves, discover relevant communities, grow their presence, and explore collaboration opportunities without breaking their journey across disconnected platforms.

Research Phase

Research focused on identifying the behaviors and expectations of short-form creators and socially active audiences. Particular attention was given to how quickly users move between watching, creating, interacting, searching, and publishing content.

The findings shaped a mobile-first experience centered around immediate content access, low-friction creation, personalized discovery, and continuous interaction. Creator growth was also considered beyond follower counts, leading to features supporting analytics, portfolios, brand discovery, and collaboration.

Visual Research

Visual research explored interaction patterns commonly associated with mobile-first short-video platforms while identifying opportunities to give Shortze its own creator-focused identity.

The interface direction prioritized immersive media, prominent creator profiles, familiar engagement actions, simple content creation, and quick transitions between viewing and interacting. The goal was to keep content at the center of the experience while making creation and discovery controls immediately accessible.
